Since the late 1970s, the number of Chinese transportation professionals has
grown considerably in the United States and Canada. In order to promote the
professional development of fellow Chinese who have an interest in
transportation-related work in North America, many Chinese transportation
professionals have felt that we should organize as a group. After years of
preparation and effort, the International Chinese Transportation Professionals
Association (ICTPA) was formally founded on January 10, 1987.
ICTPA is a nonprofit organization. The purpose of ICTPA is to promote the
professional development of its members by fostering fellowship and cooperation
among its members and by maintaining a central point of reference and
deliberation. In an effort to promote local activities, there are currently four
ICTPA Chapters: Washington, DC, Northern California, Southern California and
Northeastern United States Chapters. Each chapter has its own regular meetings
and activities. If you are interested in joining an individual chapter's activities,
contact their designated coordinator.
ICTPA meets once a year to promote local members' communications and
activities. In the year 2000, we had our 13th Annual Meeting in Hong Kong. Our
14th Annual Meeting was held in Miami, April 6-9, 2001. We had our 15th Annual
Meeting in Beijing, May 10-13, 2002. ICTPA held our 15th Annual Meeting in San
Francisco, April 18-20, 2003, sponsored by ICTPA Northern California Chapter.
Our 17th Annual Meeting was held in Taipei, Taiwan in February 11-13, 2004, co-
sponsored by Institute of Transportation, ROC, etc. with the theme of "Smarter
Green Transportation—An Olympics Challenge". Our 18th Annual Meeting was
held in Washington, D.C, in January, 2005. Our 19th Annual Meeting was held in
Hong Kong and Macau on May 29—June 1, 2006.
In addition, please also mark on your calendar that our next upcoming
conference, 21st Annual Meeting will take place in Nanjing, China, in May 2008.
ICTPA has been asked to cosponsor and recommend our members for various
international conferences and other professional exchange activities with Taiwan
or Mainland China. Since 1987, we cosponsored a series of seminars on
transportation with the Taiwan government, and made arrangements to train
transportation engineers and planners from several provinces in Mainland China
in previous years. ICTPA has played a major role in international transportation
programs.
