ICTPA Founder: Dr. Joe Lee
Dear ICTPA Members and Friends,
While ICTPA has grown, the ones that witness the growth have gotten old or older. Although the membership of ICTPA
is still relatively young, many of us olders are approaching the retirement age or have been retired. Last year, I called
it quits after thirty-five years of service at the University of Kansas. However, I don’t intent to quit from life or from
ICTPA. If there is a need for exchanging ideas or professional developments in transportation, I will no doubt throw in
my two cent’s worth. In the mean time, I am going to enjoy my life as a business person in China. Too bad my
schedule won’t allow me to join the Los Angeles Annual Meeting this time. I will make sure that I will see you all in
Nanjing next year. I promise that I’ll buy you all a dinner!
Sincerely yours,
Joe Lee

I am honored to be elected as the 10th President of the
International Chinese Transportation Professionals Association
(ICTPA). The installation of our new board of directors was held
on May 29, 2011 in California, United States. Over the past 24
years, more and more ICTPA members have excelled and
become business and/or technical leaders in transportation
agencies, engineering firms and academia. Our annual
transportation development conferences have provided a solid
platform of knowledge and experience exchange, new technologies and innovation for
transportation professionals across the Pacific oceans. We will continue our success and
promote the professional development of our members and fellow transportation
professionals from all cultural background who are interested in our activities and support
our goals.
As the new President, I would like to thank our past President Dr. Mike Houh, as well as all
previous Presidents of eight terms since our founder Dr. Joe Lee, for their great
leadership and guidance. I would also like to thank our board of directors for their
contribution and support.
We are facing many challenges including endless traffic congestion, rising energy cost
and deteriorating quality of roadways. We also have many opportunities to improve our
transportation systems through new innovations in research, planning, engineering,
construction, operation and management. ICTPA provides a platform for our members to
tackle these challenges and maximize these opportunities.
Looking into the future, I am confident to continue our success. We will focus on our
members’ technical enrichment, exchange of experience and lessons learned from many
mega infrastructure projects in the United States, greater China area, and worldwide.
